Pricing of murals and decorative work can vary dramatically. There are four main factors that will influence the time it takes to paint a mural, and in turn affect cost:

1) Detail - This is most important. The more detailed the work, the longer it will take to paint.
2) Size - As a rule, the larger the wall surface, the longer it takes to paint. However, with simpler detail (such as cartoon), size becomes less important.
3) Wall surface - The smoother the better. Rough textures, such as brick, stone and stucco, certain woods, and rougher drywall textures can dramatically increase painting time.
4) Location - The location of the mural can dramatically effect time. Ceilings, high walls and exteriors provide challenges not found in general wall murals. Ceilings are the most physically strenuous, and it is not uncommon for a mural artist to charge up to double for ceiling work. Instead of this I prefer to simply make my day a little shorter to relieve stress on the neck and shoulders.

I will always strive to work within a budget that is comfortable with you. However, it is always worth considering that the finer details are what makes a mural, trompe l'oeil artwork or canvas art so dynamic. Sacrificing attention to detail can also sacrifice the quality of the work. In some cases, such as a nursery, the detail may not be as important. However, in living spaces such as dining, living and bed rooms a more sophisticated approach is required, and this can only be achieved by attention to detail. This is even more important in portrait art, where the smallest details are what captures the very character of the subject.

All pricing includes materials, unless something unusual is required. This would include such things as scaffold or lift hire and specialty or house paints. Pricing for these items will be included in the initial quote, so there are no surprises at the end.

Once we have agreed on a price and final design I do require a deposit to confirm a booking. One half deposit, with the remainder due on completion of the mural is required. In case of cancellation, I will give a full refund of the deposit, unless it is within 14 days of the scheduled start date, in which case I will refund the deposit minus a 10% late cancellation fee.

It is my pleasure to help you with any questions you may have in the process of beginning your custom artwork, so please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you.
